The self-proclaimed “new kid on the block,” Madison Johnston grew up in Austin, Texas, but began her radio career as a student announcer for WSMC at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. She graduated college with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in music, although her music education began long before college.
From the age of 5, Madison studied classical piano and theory, and by age 12 she had traveled to Zwickau, Germany to spend time studying and performing music at the Robert Schumann Conservatory. In 2011, she entered and won the Young Artist Solo Competition held by the Starlight Symphony Orchestra.
Madison always knew that she wanted music to be a consistent part of her life in some way, and loves the fact that being at WRR finds her at a happy medium between her love of music and her degree in Public Relations. She still continues to play the piano, and on some afternoons she can be found at the Steinway Hall Dallas Piano Showroom playing to her heart’s content.
Within the realm of classical music, one of Madison’s favorite composers is Tchaikovsky, and she has gone faithfully to see the Nutcracker Ballet every winter since she was 4 years old. She also has a passion for travel and fashion, and is fascinated by other languages and cultures. One of the things she values most about music is that it’s a universal language, providing a way to be able to connect with anyone, no matter what language they speak.
