Blatantly Garish works by Nick Kirk is on display at Mokah Art Gallery June 23 through July 28 with an opening reception Saturday, June 23 6- 10pm. Kirk’s multi-media paintings boast a layering of imagery gleaned from popular culture. The images seem to dance across the painting’s surface interacting with and contradicting each other. Much can be read into the work. Kirk feels he is creating “dots” on the page and he leaves it up to the viewer how they choose to connect them. The underlining theme of the work is the bombardment of advertisement upon the society at large.
