Tuesday Evenings at the Modern presents Gary Simmons
Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
3200 Darnell Street
Fort Worth, TX

Ticket Price: free
New York-based artist Gary Simmons is recognized for his forthright depictions of race, pedagogy, and culture. He is well-known for his expansive erasure drawings, which he originally made using chalk on blackboards that he then smeared and obscured by hand, creating ghostly images. One such piece, Wall of Eyes, was commissioned for the 1993 Whitney Biennial. In 2002, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago organized a solo exhibition of his work that traveled to SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico and The Studio Museum in Harlem. With an impressive exhibition record and a full-scale monograph, Gary Simmons: Paradise, scheduled for publication this fall, Simmons is the Modern’s first Focus exhibition artist for the 2012–2013 season. He is here to present ideas and developments in his work for Tuesday Evenings. For information: 817.738.9215 or www.themodern.org
