Gallery 76102 Presents: ‘A Study of Water’ and ‘What Once Was a Forest’ feat. Loli Kantor and Hiroko Kubo. Curated by Devon Nowlin. Opening: October 11th, 2012 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm Exhibition: October 11th – November 30th, 2012 Through documentary photography and sculptural representation, ‘A Study of Water’ and ‘What Once Was a Forest’ reveals an intimate look into the rites and rituals of each of the respective artists’ communities. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, Loli Kantor brings a deeply personal interest, as well as unique sensibility to her bodies of work. Through research into her familial past, she shines a light on the reemergence of Jewish life and culture in central and eastern Europe. Engaging with an older generation of Jews who remained in Eastern Europe after the Holocaust and the fall of the Soviet Union, Kantor’s images show the circle of Jewish life: the aging Holocaust survivors, new monuments erected, and the reexamination and repair of old synagogues and cemeteries. Born in Hiroshima Japan, Hiroko Kubo’s early work displays a strong influence from indigenous religious artifacts all over the world, and relate to her exploration of both the diversity and commonality of human ideology across cultures. Currently, she seeks to express philosophical concepts on the human mind through the use of forms that combine boldness and sensitivity. Gallery entrance located at south end on Jones St. Limited parking available in the front and back of building. For information: (817) 272-0365 or
