iPhonography: Images Along the White Rock Creek Trail

Starting just north of White Rock Lake in Dallas, and snaking along near its namesake creek, the White Rock Creek Trail stretches about 7 miles north of the lake and extends beyond LBJ Freeway. Seeking to combine two of his favorite things, biking and photography, celebrated photojournalist Guy Reynolds started making a series of images along the trail not long ago. The photographer uses his iPhone camera and the Hipstamatic phone application rather than tote a real camera during his biking outings. Hipstamatic is a program that uses a smartphone's camera to shoot square format photographs that are recorded with software filters, flashes, and lenses that emulate the look and feel of photographs that were taken with an old film toy camera. A favorite combination of the photographer is using the John S Lens and BlacKeys SuperGrain Film settings, which yields black-and-white images with a heavy border and some vignetting.
