The Creative Arts Center of Dallas (CAC), a nonprofit school of visual arts and community arts organization geared to beginning, emerging and working artists, will host its second exhibit featuring self-taught artists from The Bridge, Dallas’ largest homeless service center. “From the Street” will open on Thursday, June 26 with an artist reception from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and run through Sunday, August 17. The exhibit will be in the school’s main building at 2360 Laughlin Drive, Dallas, 75228. Curated by Denny Doran who started the Self-Taught Artist program at The Bridge five years ago the show will feature the work of 15 artists, and will include drawings, paintings and jewelry all of which will be for sale with all proceeds going to the artist. This is the second show that CAC has hosted for the group and the group has also exhibited at Davis Foundry Gallery in Oak Cliff. The artists are: Lee Albritton, Jacques Brooks, Dorothy Burch, Luis Flores, Juan C. Gonzales, Shymala Jesudson, Stephen Kehr, Bubba Mitchell, Roger Montoya, Mystery, Clayton Osman, William Brown Otter, Sister Sheila, Special K, and Sherrie Threlkeld. Located on a two-acre campus four miles east of downtown Dallas, CAC offers more than 500 classes and workshops per year in such disciplines as ceramics, clay sculpture, creative writing, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal arts, mosaic, painting, photography, printmaking, stone carving and woodworking. Cultivating creativity for nearly 50 years, CAC also offers free arts programming to disadvantaged children.
