Arlington Youth Symphony is closing its inaugural season with performances by the AYS String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. The concert will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Irons Recital Hall on the University of Texas at Arlington campus. The String Orchestra concert begins at 2:30 p.m., with the Symphony Orchestra concert following at 4:00 p.m. Leading the String Orchestra is Mrs. Diane Harper, head orchestra director at Young Junior High in Arlington. They will be performing works by Glazunov, Spata, Gruselle, and Silve. Dr. Clifton Evans will lead the Symphony Orchestra in performances of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in D Minor, Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, and Williams’ Overture to The Cowboys. Dr. Evans is currently Director of Orchestras at the University of Texas at Arlington. Founded by Dr. Evans, the Arlington Youth Symphony has enjoyed an exciting first season with over 100 musicians from thirteen communities and forty-seven schools in Arlington and the surrounding DFW areas.
