David Stockman does not have a record of silence on his favorite issues. To many Americans with long memories, Mr. Stockman is the nation’s budget director famously “taken to the woodshed” in late 1981 for displeasing the president he served, Ronald Reagan. Stockman, then the cabinet-level Director of the Office of Management and Budget, had spoken candidly to Atlantic Monthly about the President’s economic philosophy and was summoned to a one-on-one session with Mr. Reagan. Mr. Stockman called it being “taken to the woodshed.” In the ensuing decades, that Reagan Era story may have softened, but David Stockman’s philosophy of careful government spending has not. Author, lecturer and former long-term Congressman from Michigan, Stockman has been a steady – frequently critical -- voice in the discussion of how to get a grip on government spending and the nation’s economy. The title of his latest book explains his stance: “THE GREAT DEFORMATION: How Crony Capitalism He is also noted for criticizing “the draining of breadwinner jobs from the economy” and, in 2011, declaring that the Republican Party “has totally abdicated its job in our democracy, which is to act as the guardian of the fiscal discipline and responsibility.” For information: (214) 965-8400 or
