Matthew Collings Lecture at Texas Woman's University
Texas Woman's University
MCL 101 Auditorium
Denton, TX 76204

Ticket Price: Free
This lecture is in conjunction with the exhibition of Emma Biggs and Matthew Collings work at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, which opens March 23rd. In a joint enterprise, Biggs and Collings create autonomous abstract paintings that take their place in a modernist tradition going back 100 years, inflected by a conceptual practice that challenges an absolute reading. For their exhibition at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts the artists stage an inquiry into what it might mean for art to be its own thing in an age of suspicion. The installation, with its wall text, jewel-like oil paintings, and collage of gray surfaces both depicted and actual, amounts to a tournament of color, conflict, abstraction, disappearance and redaction, in which Biggs and Collings throw punches in an argument with post-post modernism. The lecture is free and open to the public. For information: (940) 898-2533 or www.twu.edu/visual-arts
