Ambassador Szapáry will address the evolution of the economic crisis in the advanced economies from the financial turbulence to the debt and confidence crisis. His lecture will cover developments in the Eurozone, he will also analyze the effects of the crisis in the Central Eastern European region, including Hungary. György Szapáry presented his letter of credence to President Barack Obama on February 23rd 2011. Prior his assignment as Ambassador, he held the position of Chief Economic Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán. Ambassador Szapáry holds a PhD in economics from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He worked 27 years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. He returned to Hungary in 1990 where he served as the Senior Resident Representative of the IMF until 1993. During 1993-2007, he served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Hungary.
