In the contemporary art world, advances in technology and increased interest in various new media, have forced painters and sculptors, at times, to question the relevance of their own work. In a conversation with an art audience with a high level of sophistication, (but short attention span), artists seek new ways to be visually exciting, yet still true to the methods that called to them in the first place. The five artists included in the exhibition, Systems and Solutions – painters, sculptors, and a master print-maker, question formal elements, bending, twisting, and intermingling – as well as creating new rules and systems to present solutions using traditional media that may open new pathways to the unexpected.
