Jewish Community Center of Dallas presents WINDOWS OF MY MIND: Paintings by Bernard Bortnick
the Jewish Community Center of Dallas,
7900 Northaven Road,
Dallas, TX

Dallas artist, Bernard Bortnick, practiced architecture nationally and internationally for fifty years. In recognition of his outstanding work, he was made a fellow in the American Institute of Architects (FAIA). He is a 1960 graduate of Washington University’s School of Architecture, where he taught design from 1965 – 1968. Since retiring in 2008, he resumed his interest in fine art full time – an interest that had developed in the early fifties when he attended the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design. Bernard’s paintings have been exhibited in Plano, Denton, The McKinney Ave. Contemporary, Brookhaven College, The MAC, the Latino Cultural Center, the Bathhouse Cultural Center, the Oxide Gallery and the Craighead Green Gallery, to name a few. He is a member of the Texas Visual Artists Association and participates in the North Dallas Artist Studio Tour. In September 2012, forty-four of his works were featured in his first one-man show at The Lillian Bradshaw Gallery of the Dallas Main Public Library. Bortnick describes himself as a figurative symbolist, meaning that he often depicts human figures juxtaposed on and arranged with other objects to convey social or political messages. His preferred medium is acrylic paint. For information: or
