The program opens with Haydn’s famous String Quartet Op. 33/2 which is subtitled “The Joke.” Come early so as not to miss the “punch line” at the end of the work! Also on the program is Soliloquy for English Horn and Strings by Pulitzer-prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon, who recently served as composer-in-residence for the Fort Worth Symphony. Featured work on this program is a cycle of 11 songs for Soprano and Piano by Ricky Ian Gordon entitled “Too Few the Mornings Be.” These songs, on the poetry of Emily Dickinson, will be sung by Lynda Poston-Smith, accompanied by her husband Robert Smith.
