On November 17, the Wesleyan Music Department welcomes pianists Michael Brounoff and Wei Ling Wang for a DFW Amateur Pianists Recital. Michael Brounoff began his piano studies as a child with the late Lazelle Light. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Brandeis University in 1969, a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974, and a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy between those two, Brounoff returned to formal piano study with Dr. Tamas Ungar of Texas Christian University. He also studied with Dr. Fred Karpoff of Syracuse University during a 4-year residence in New York State He is a four-time competitor and three-time semifinalist in the Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, as well as a three-time winner of the Piano Texas Concerto Competition for Amateurs at TCU, earning a performance with the Fort Worth Symphony. Brounoff will perform such notable works as a Nocturne by Chopin; Elegie and Polichinelle from Rachmaninoff’s Morceaux de fantaisie, Op. 3; and Intermezzo in E major from Brahms’ Fantasies, Op. 116. Wei Ling began studying piano at a young age and competed in several local, state and regional competitions through her high school years. Wei Ling is a prize winner at the Seattle International Piano Festival and Competition and The Chopin Society of Houston Adult Amateurs Competition. She also played a movement of a Beethoven piano concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony as a winner of the Piano Texas Piano Concerto Competition for Amateurs. Wei Ling will perform Bach’s Prelude No. 8 in E-flat minor from The Well-Tempered Clavier, three selections from Johannes Brahms’ Opus 118, and Claude Debussy’s L'Isle Joyeuse.
