Happy Hour with Hamlisch
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra and WRR Classical 101.1 hosts Happy Hour with Hamlisch Monday, August 2from 5-6 p.m. in the lobby of the Morton H. Meyerson. This free event kicks off single tickets going on sale for the 2010-2011 season and is open to the public. The DSO box office will be open throughout the event to take orders and print tickets for all 2010-2011 performances on sale.
Guests will have the chance to mix and mingle with musical genius and DSO Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch and members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra while enjoying Hamlisch’s signature wit and talent at the piano.
Appetizers for Happy Hour with Hamlisch have been generously donated by Arts District resident restaurant Jorge’s featuring Hamlisch’s favorite Tex-Mex dish – tortilla soup.
Hamlisch officially takes over as principal pops conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra beginning with the 2010-2011 season. As a composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, received the Pulitzer Prize. His latest score for The Informant has drawn particular praise from film critics and was nominated for a Golden Globe and he is currently looking toward a fall debut of his much anticipated collaboration with Jerry Lewis on the Broadway production of The Nutty Professor opening later this year.
In Hamlisch’s first season with the DSO, he will be infusing his humor and gift for narration into the DSO’s pops format, creating a thrilling new level of entertainment. Hamlisch debuts as principal pops conductor with the DSO on August 27- 29 with a tribute to legendary American composer George Gershwin featuring classics such as Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris and more in this can’t-miss concert.
With a classical series helmed by one of the greatest conductors in the world – Jaap van Zweden; and a Pops series helmed by one of the most acclaimed composers, humorists and Pops conductors in the world – Marvin Hamlisch - The Dallas Symphony now has its own conducting “dream team”.

WRR´s Picnic at Center Park
You've joined us throughout the years for our Picnic in the Park Labor Day weekend and had a great time we're sure... Well this year we've changed it up just a bit.
Sure, all your favorite family friendly activities are still going on and the Dallas Wind Symphony are still with us to raise that patriotic spirit of yours but there's a twist!
This year we've moved to NorthPark Center!
We've been listening to your complaints on parking, the lack of food and water and when we saw this gorgeous park in the middle of NorthPark Center we knew this was the answer.
Also, we're expanding the musical line-up!
The Dallas Wind Symphony will be the headlining act. Also appearing on the main stage will be the Arts District Chorale with opening acts The Booker T Washington High School Jazz Band and the 5 Second Rule.
Saturday, Sept. 11 from 1-3 p.m.
